Turmeric Cancer - Can Turmeric treat cancer?

Previously there was no research evidence to show that turmeric or curcumin can prevent or treat cancer but a recent research project led by Dr R Baskaran has shown some positive results.

Curcumin, a bioactive compound derived from turmeric (Curcuma longa) has long been recognized as being an effective anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant agent. Up until now though, the mechanism by which this bright yellow compound cures the cancer has remained a mystery.

A team headed by Dr Baskaran, an Associate Professor from the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at Pondicherry University, discovered the mechanism by which curcumin kills hereditary non-polyposis colorectal* cancer cells and documented their findings in the international journal `Molecular and cellular biochemistry‘, March 2016 edition.

Turmeric Cancer - Can Turmeric treat cancer?

Dr R Baskaran said Curcumin, derived from turmeric has preventive properties against Colorectal Cancer. “We have compared normal and colorectal cancer cells from humans, and if you consume turmeric, it prevents cancer by killing the cells causing intestinal cancer”. Baskaran also mentions that curcumin selectively destroys bowel cancer cells whilst sparing normal cells.

Finally Baskaran notes that “the absorption rate of curcumin in the human body is low. We can work on a combination of curcumin along with other organic compounds with anti-cancer properties to effectively cure colorectal cancer”.

At Turmeric Life we have a recipe that helps increase the absorption rate of curcumin into the human (or your pets) body – its called Golden Paste. We suggest you embrace it into your household’s everyday diet today.

After high school in Cairns I attended Gatton Agricultural College to study agriculture and after graduation went on to the University of Queensland Veterinary Science faculty where I graduated in 1974 and went into rural practice at Moree NSW. Then I did a few years with the South Australian Department of Agriculture as a livestock advisor mainly involved in the eradication of Brucellosis and tuberculosis in the cattle herds. This was followed by about 20 years in mixed farm/equine/pets at Wyong, NSW Central Coast, then managed a large thoroughbred stud at Scone (Kia-Ora) before returning back to Cairns, North Queensland to have my own mixed practice on the Northern Beaches for around 15 years. Now living on the Gold Coast in a farm/equine practice and researching turmeric growing and manufacturing health products from this wonderful plant.
